Description

Zoe Modiga was born in Overport, Durban and raised in Pietermaritzburg. Her love for music, at a very young age, encouraged her to attend the National School of the Arts in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, where she studied classical piano, clarinet and vocals. Her time at the school provided an excellent platform to pursue music as a passion and career in her later years. She is currently completing her degree in jazz vocals at the South African College of Music, UCT. She has performed at festivals such as Aardklop, Artscape Youth Jazz Festival, UCT Jazz Festival, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz and The Cape Town International Jazz Festival. She was a winner of the Jazz Category of the SAMRO Overseas Scholarship Competition in 2015.

Zama was born in Msinga, a rural area in KwaZulu-Natal. She has been performing since she was five years old and has been composing and writing songs since she was sixteen. Alan Kupeta was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. He later moved to South Africa, where he attended the Campus of Performing Arts (COPA). Alan met Zama through a friend and they became friends for a few years before forming the band Zama & The Alan. They are a Johannesburg based independent band and they create original music that fuses traditional African sounds with Alternative Rock, Jazz, Soul, Pop, as well as Latin American elements. Their music makes you feel, dance and connect with the realities of being human.
