-Essence of Musiq, started in 2005 when individuals met each other and came up with sound of Essence of Musiq. Back in those times it was made up of 3 members. 3 male vocalists singing accapella composing African sounds. Since then the band has grown to a number of six in total which now includes a saxophonist, pianist, bass player, drummer, second keys and 1 vocalist. The entire band members come from Soweto. Our band is formed of qualified college graduates from South West Gauteng College and the National School of Arts.
Why our band is worth listening to
The band is made up of people who have a real passion and talent for music. Our vocalist; Rethabile Khumalo is an instrumentalist as well as songwriter that convey emotion into all her music. She brings a tender, soothing touch to the music. Our master composer, Victor “Dr Piano” Mabunda, is a pianist, singer, songwriter, guitarist, bassist and producer is the musical brain of the band. Tumisang “Legend” Mabale, our bassist, gives off that are mellow yet compelling and inviting. Our drummer, Sabelo Sabz Sekhukhune, is dramatic, aggressive and energetic. He gives the band a very raw and edgy tone with the way he plays. Our saxophonist, Molefe “Vertis” Moema, is known for his up tempo bebop style of playing that brings back thoughts of early day bebop. Mohau “Hauza” Radebe , he is a silent killer in our music. He has his own way of sneaking in with his soulful organs and effects, he is our spice. ALL in all our band fuses genres like ; jazz, hip hop, neosoul, blues, RnB and afro-soul just to name a few, into their breezy, light-hearted and sometimes downright moving style of music.
